Russia warns of 'enormous danger' if NATO sends troops to Ukraine

On Wednesday, Russia cautioned against the potential peril of deploying NATO troops into Ukraine, emphasizing the close scrutiny of a Ukrainian appeal advocating such intervention.

The petition, hosted on the Ukrainian president's website, urges soliciting assistance from the United States, Britain, and other nations to counter Russia's incursion.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov remarked on the matter during his routine briefing, citing the unpredictability of the Kyiv regime. He reiterated Russia's longstanding stance on the significant hazards associated with NATO military involvement on Ukrainian soil, characterizing the petition as a highly provocative move warranting careful observation.

The petition's fate hung in the balance, as it remained uncertain whether it would garner the requisite 25,000 votes to compel President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's response. Presently, it had secured a mere 1,594 votes as of Wednesday morning.

While NATO has furnished Ukraine with increasingly potent armaments, including tanks and long-range missiles, it has refrained from direct troop deployment, a prospect that both U.S. President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin have cautioned could escalate to global conflict.

French President Emmanuel Macron suggested that the issue of Western troop deployment to Ukraine would be "justifiable" if Russia breached Ukrainian defenses and Kyiv formally requested assistance.

In response, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned on Wednesday that Russia would consider French troops fair game if they were dispatched to Ukraine.
